Higherlife Foundation is a social impact organisation which has so far supported more that 250,000 people with scholarships and leadership training through its offices in five African countries, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda and Zimbabwe where its Head Office and largest operations are. Founded in 1996 by Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa, the Foundation has to date allocated more than US$60 million towards healthcare and crisis response whilst a further US$100 million has gone towards supporting job creation and sustainable livelihoods initiatives.
An impressive 68,000 people are reached every year through the organisation’s active mentorship programs whilst another of Higherlife Foundation’s key aims is to achieve a 50% gender parity across all of its initiatives. This makes it a good opportunity for young people of both genders to apply for the Foundation’s Joshua Nkomo Scholarship.

Higherlife Foundation Joshua Nkomo Scholarships for academically gifted students are available to Zimbabwean citizens under the age of 21 at the time of applying. The scholarships are for candidates entering their first year of undergraduate studies in Zimbabwean universities. 70% of the scholarships are allocated for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) studies, whilst 30% is reserved for other disciplines.
Eligible candidates are required to submit the following documents:
- Academic certificates/public exam results
- Birth Certificate
- National ID
The Character Reference Form should be sent by registered mail to the Higherlife Foundation Office at Suite 5, Westgate House East, David Frost Way, Westgate Complex, Harare.
